There's an art to getting a big laugh out of a one-liner, but is it possible to get one out of just 140 characters? That's the challenge laid down for acts on the bill at the first (as far as we're aware) Twitter Comedy Club, taking place online this coming Monday evening.

Each comic will get 10 minutes to fire a salvo of humorous tweets, while the Twitter platform allows the audience to type in appreciative laughter or heckles as appropriate.

The cyber-brainchild of circuit regular Tiernan Douieb, its debut outing features a fascinating lineup: headliner is occasional Mock The Week star Mark Watson (always a big fan of innovation in comedy, as veterans of his 24-hour-plus marathons in Edinburgh will attest), while support comes from leftfield rising stars including Matthew Crosby and his ever-boisterous Pappy's Fun Club colleagues
