2009 - Twitter comedy show - one-liners compulsory - The Times
News of another Twitter first reaches me (by email - how quaint).
Nine stand-up
comedians, including Now Show and Mock the Week luminaries such
as Mitch Benn and Mark Watson, are going to do a "gig"
- a series of 10-minute routines - on Twitter on June 8 for everyone
to follow.
Now putting
aside the "Twitter is a joke, anyway" jokes, I am interested
to see whether being restricted to 140 characters or less will work
for these guys.
The website
for the show is twittercomedy.co.uk and @tweetcomedyclub already
has more than 4,000 followers mainly thanks to a mention on Twitter
from Stephen Fry ("sounds larky").
The PR tells
me that the comedians will be doing one-liners or telling stories
with punchlines. Hecklers are invited to take part by sending @replies
to the comedian "on-stage". The event will be compered
by Tiernan Douieb.
To watch the
night unfold, simply follow the hash tag #twitcom. The show starts
at 8pm BST.
Oh, and by the
way, for anyone out there who is interested my Twitter moniker is
@mikeharvey. Obvious really.
